Jones Mountain Twin

At the top of the world, where the pow is fresh and fluffy and you can see for miles over the valley below, limitations should be the furthest thing from your mind. With the Jones Mountain Twin you will own the mountain with its speed, style and some sinister shred-ability.

An ideal all-mountain board, the Twin lets you traverse the slopes with ease, from terrain park to 60° back country trails. Its directional twin design gives you the flexibility of switching on the fly, but the board is at its best when you’re bombing down a hill nose first, preferably through pow-pow knee deep and cotton-candy soft.

Retailing for around $385, the 2012/13 Mountain Twin is a great value and a perfect choice for the versatile rider who goes both ways: groomers and powder. No matter the conditions, this board will give you two legs up on a great day.

Jones Mountain Twin Snowboard: Overview

With a bevy of lengths ranging from 151 to 164cm, the Jones Mountain Twin is perfect for riders of all heights and abilities. While not a true twin, the design gives you the option of riding switch. The asymmetrical flex of the board keeps the tail stiff and the nose afloat, so you can tear through the thick of it without getting bogged down.

Take a peek at the technology to get a better idea of how the Mountain Twin fares out in the elements.

  • Camrock flex pattern—Distinctive design profile features evenly balanced rockers at the tip and tail with subtle camber between the feet, keeping you afloat in powder without losing any pop
  • Magne-Traction—Superior grip at the edge improves carving and keeps your turning radius sharp by increasing contact between snow and board
  • All-wood core with film topsheet—lightweight, comfy and strong, the board is both green and sheen, featuring an all-terrain design from the inside out without the use of plastic

Advantages

With its -20 setback stance, not only do you keep your nose up, but you experience less fatigue during your ride, extending your day. The board’s stiff tail lets you carve like a pro, whether the run is groomed to a zippy sheet or you’re making your own path through freshies.

The Twin features exceptional torsional stiffness, increasing its longevity, while the sintered base is super wax-absorbent and keeps its slippery sheen longer than extruded-base planks.

Disadvantages

For terrain park lovers, this board may leave a little to be desired. The Mountain Twin’s asymmetrical flex limits your ability to switch when skating a pipe or pulling a 540 off a rail. It’ll let you switch, but its negative setback is better suited for powder and trail bombs.

Summary

Nothing’s too steep or too deep riding the Jones Mountain Twin. Great for all-mountain use, this board is a sleek, affordable choice for riders who like a snow-day smorgasbord—a little of this, a little of that. You’ll get plenty of float and ample speed from this ride. Powder will never be a problem; it’ll be what you’re after.
